DEPARTMENT OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT

Study Abroad

We encourage our students to spend a semester abroad.  The HTM program currently has four exchange programs available with partner institutions around the world that are available for our students.  For each of these programs, students pay their tuition to CofC and then study with no additional tuition costs at the host institution (all CofC scholarships, Life Scholarships, etc. apply).  Our four programs are:

Australia:  HTMT students are provided an opportunity to study at one of seven Queensland University hospitality and tourism programs.  Set in the tropical northern state of Queensland, home of the Barrier Reef, rainforests, and great beaches, these are very popular and competitive programs that attract a good number of students interested in Australia as a place of study.  Schools range from the highly competitive University of Queensland (an 'Australian Ivy') to less competitive but very good universities such as the University of the Sunshine Coast.
For more information, please click here and their official website is at http://www.uq.edu.au/
FYI: The participating universities link has some broken links and the links will be fixed asap.

Denmark: Study at the CEUS School of Business in the Bachelor of Leisure Management program. The CEUS campus, located on an island in the south of Denmark, provides a wonderful learning experience in an attractive small city near the beach, with easy access to many destinations in northern Europe. CEUS attracts many international students, mostly European, and all classes are taught in English.
For more information, see their official website at http://www.ceus.dk/sw174.asp.

England:  We have a new program with an excellent UK university, Sheffield Hallam University, that boasts one of the best HTM programs in Europe.  Located in the north of England, Sheffield is far more affordable than London, and is known across England as a very attractive college town.
For more information, see their official website at http://www.shu.ac.uk/.

Austria: Study in Innsbruck during the spring semester when HTM classes are taught in English.  Innsbruck is in the heart of the Alps and in the center of Western Europe.  A special attraction are courses in ski resort management, something you surely will not get in South Carolina!
For more information, see their official website at http://info.uibk.ac.at/index-en.html.

In addition, students are also welcome to participate in any international program offered through the International Studies program, though many of these will not offer HTM options.

Most students plan on taking their study abroad during their junior year.  We encourage you to plan in advance to make sure that a study abroad fits your planned curriculum.

If you have any questions, please feel free to visit your HTM advisor or the International Studies Office.
