Scholarships
The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTMT) is pleased to offer several diverse and rewarding scholarship opportunities each academic year. Each scholarship is intended to address a particular audience. We encourage perspective and current students to seek out and apply for those that best match your given circumstances, attributes, academic achievements, and professional aspirations.
GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS FALL 2007 - SPRING 2008
Patrick E. Ringwald Scholarship - $2,000
The Patrick Ringwald Scholarship is given annually to a College of Charleston student with a major, minor, or concentration in Hospitality and Tourism Management. The scholarship is in memory of the former general manager of the Boathouse Restaurant who was shot and killed during a robbery some years ago. Patrick was widely known in Charleston’s food and beverage industry for over 20 years. Academic excellence, although important, is not the chief criteria for this scholarship. Instead, the scholarship is awarded to the student that best represents Patrick Ringwald’s spirit and attitude.
Wild Dunes Resort Hospitality Management Scholarship - $3,000
Wild Dunes Resort specialize in memorable vacations, and offer many accommodation styles, abundant activities for all ages, great dining, and award winning golf and tennis. They also are active in meeting planning, weddings, and catering. The scholarship is awarded to an HTMT student based upon resort industry career interests, financial need and other criteria.
Charleston Restaurant Association Scholarship - $1,500
The Greater Charleston Restaurant Association (GCRA) is a nonpartisan, nonprofit trade organization serving the Charleston Area restaurant industry. It serves as the voice of the local restaurant industry on government and public relations issues. GCRA hosts two major festivals each year: The Taste of Charleston & the Low country Oyster Festival. The scholarship is awarded based upon foodservice career interests, financial need and other criteria.
HTMT Student Education Fund Opportunities - $4,500.00
$1,000.00 - Sponsored by Hilton Hotel Management
Hilton Hotels Corporation is the leading global hospitality company, with more than 2,800 hotels and 490,000 rooms in more than 80 countries, including 150,000 team members worldwide. To qualify for this scholarship, the HTMT student must have a work affiliation with the Hilton Hotel Corporation. Other criteria also apply.
$1,000.00 - Sponsored by Kiawah Island Golf Resort
Kiawah Island Golf Resort is the home of the famous Ocean Course, where the 2007 Senior PGA Championship was held. Tennis Magazine rated the Resort the #2 U.S. tennis resorts. It is also home to the 5 Diamond Sanctuary Hotels. The scholarship is awarded based upon hospitality career interests, financial need and other criteria.
$2,500.00 - Sponsored by The Charleston Food and Wine Festival
The purpose for the BB&T Charleston Food + Wine Festival is to highlight and celebrate Charleston's extraordinary culinary history and culture. The Festival also recognizes and supports various culinary-related establishments that support the local industry. The Festival is a world-class, four-day event which promotes and supports a variety of culinary interests and charities. The scholarship is awarded based upon event management career interests, financial need, and other criteria.

INCOMING FRESHMEN SCHOLARSHIP
Applications for this incoming freshmen scholarship are due in the spring.
Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina Resort Management Scholarship - $3,000
The scholarship was established in 2005 by the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina for an incoming freshman who has demonstrated both academic distinction, and a commitment to the hospitality industry. Financial need and other criteria also apply.
